I have lived in the Virginia Water area for over 20 years and have 2 sons who are now at university. My undergraduate degree was in maths at Aston University and I studied for a PhD at Reading University. Since leaving university I formed and run a computer company for 22 years and have since formed and run 2 successful businesses as Managing Director. I now run my current business on a part-time basis. I have been a rugby coach and referee at Chobham Rugby Club for the last 12 years and with each age group as my sons grew up. I am a professional yacht and motor yacht skipper. My sports include tennis, rugby, football, skiing and of course sailing. I enjoy working as a maths tutor in the Ascot area.
Approach to tutoring
I like to work with the knowledge students have on a subject and then build from there. With maths it is at times necessary to revisit the fundamentals - these can be forgotten as time passes. I have a wealth of information sheets and tips covering the various topics on the syllabus and make use of past papers to prepare students for their exams. I like to discover a students strengths and weaknesses early on and believe my experience helps me with that. I consider myself calm, patient and supportive. Lessons are structured to and tailored to meet the student's needs and include a variety of hands on material and varied learning styles.
I am CRB checked for maths tutoring and through my local rugby club as a rugby coach.
